JUVENTUS have been crowned Serie A champions for a fifth season in a row after Napoli’s 1-0 defeat at Roma.
Sunday’s 2-1 win at Fiorentina put them on the brink of glory, and Napoli’s failure to win today means Juve can no longer be caught.
It completes a stunning rise for the Turin side, who were in 12th place and 11 points off the top on October 28.
Losing the likes of Andrea Pirlo and Carlos Tevez was never going to be easy and so it proved in the opening games of the campaign
However, they then won 24 of their 25 league games and collected 73 points from a possible 75 to race clear.
Napoli’s defeat actually denied Juventus the chance to win the title at their own ground. But they can definitely celebrate a 32nd Scudetto victory at Sunday’s date with Carpi.
The likes of Gianluigi Buffon, Paul Pogba, a rock solid defence, Juan Cuadrado, Paulo Dybala and Alvaro Morata have been at the forefront of this Serie A title win.
Veteran keeper Buffon, 38, believes Juve’s devastating run of form highlights the great mental strength in the Old Lady’s squad.
He said: “My first and the one this year have been the greatest of all my Scudetto victories. This season has been crazy and unbelievable.
“The way in which we wrapped up the Championship shows the great technical strength and strong morale that we have in the squad. It has shown our desire to never give up and perform to the best of our abilities.”
The one sour note in an otherwise excellent season was their performance in the Champions League, something which Buffon is determined to improve.
Juventus lost to Bayern Munich in the round of 16 and Buffon added: “This season we have been lacking a little bit of killer instinct.
“I am certain that the disappointment of being eliminated this year will provide ample motivation to improve next season.”
