Donald Trump has again exceeded all expectations.
Yes, this was friendly political territory and analysts expected the New York billionaire to win these five primaries in America's Northeast.
But he did far more than that. This was a triumph that changed the narrative.
Until these results came in overnight, the assumption was that Trump would not be able to win enough delegates to clinch the Republican Party nomination before the convention.
Now that prize is within reach - and without the need for a chaotic floor fight at the convention. All that is really left is a win in Indiana next week and then a big victory in California on June 7.
But let's not forget that the "Never Trump" wing of the party will not vanish.
The Trump victory promises not unity, but an historic split in America's conservative movement.
For the Democrats, Hillary Clinton also had a highly successful night. She won in four of the five states being contested.
And - yes, we've said this many times in this election cycle - Hillary is really a double winner.
She gets ever closer to the Democratic nomination; and she is able to watch a Republican civil war erupt as the party is taken over by a demagogue and unpredictable populist.
