Mr Capello said: 'This is unfair to the poor and vulnerable masses. Tope fluently speaks Yoruba, Igbo and Hausa languages.
'He has transformed since he was imprisoned four years ago, this is a lad that will assist visitors with their luggage down to cells of those they came to visit in Kuje prison.

MAGU SLAMS N5BN SUIT ON SUN NEWSPAPERS OVER ALLEGED OWNERSHIP OF TWO ABUJA MANSIONS

Wilson Uwujaren, EFCC Head of Media in a statement Thursday said Magu was seeking the compensation for libelous imputations and statements made against him in a story published on the March 25, 2017 edition of the Saturday Sun.
It said the publication was captioned “Magu Under Fresh Probe over 2 Abuja Mansions”.
Magu’s solicitor, Wahab Shittu, in the letter complained that the authors – Fred Itua, James Ojo and Lawrene Enyoghasu, “wilfully and maliciously made false, destructive, and defamatory statements”.

Magu said that the writers of the report maliciously alleged that Magu owned “two mansions on different streets in highbrow Maitama area of Abuja.
“This is a case which they could not substantiate, and which in fact was false, and nothing but the figments of their imaginations”.
Magu further reiterated that neither himself nor his wife owned any property in Maitama.

Magu, in addition to the demand for N5 billion compensation, wants the publishers to issue a public apology and immediate retraction in writing of these false libelous statements, within the next seven days.
Magu also demanded that it must be published on the front page of the newspaper.
”Failure of which, legal remedies including monetary damages, injunctive reliefs, and an order that you pay necessary costs including solicitor’s fees for your defamation will be taken”, the letter reads.
It added that the publishers were also to provide “written assurance within seven days, that they would cease and desist from further defamation” of Magu’s name, integrity, and reputation.

EFCC ARRESTS WOMAN WHO COLLECTED N45 MILLLOION NAIRA TO CURE HEALTH ISSUES

Ibadan Zonal office of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC), says it has arrested one Aminat Okiribiti for allegedly conspiring with others to defraud a woman of her money, under false pretence.
Mr Ayo Oyewole, the EFCC Head of Public Affairs, Ibadan Zonal Office, told the News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) in Ibadan on Thursday that the suspect had engaged in Advance Fee Fraud.
Oyewole stated that Okiribiti, with others now at large, had allegedly conspired ,using the pretence of providing cure and spiritual solution to health challenges, to defraud the women (name withheld) of a sum of N45 million.
He said that Aminat, age 34, married to one Wande Okiribiti (47) who is still at large, had confessed to committing the crime.
He said she had confessed that some of the money obtained from the victim, was collected by her through her bank account in a new generation bank, located in Ibadan.

Recounting her ordeal, the complainant said that she met Wande (suspect’s husband) sometimes in October 2014 at Utako, Abuja while in search of a cure for the health challenges of her children.
According to her, “Wande presented himself as a local herb hawker and a spiritualist capable of providing solutions to all problems and lured me into believing he had the cure to my children’s challenges.
“I subsequently made different payments as advised, totaling N45 million, but became suspicious at the request for funds transfers, which continued without solution to the problem.”
Oyewole said that the complainant, having suspected foul play, wrote petitioned the commission, necessitating the arrest of the suspect.
He urged members of the public to be wary of the age-long tactics to avoid falling into the hands of fraudsters.
Oyewole said that the suspect would be charged to court as soon as investigations were concluded.

PROF YEMI OSINBAJO BLAMES PROTRACTED INSURGENCY ON CORRUPTION

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has said corruption led to the rise of Boko Haram insurgency in Nigeria.
He stated this at the OECD global anti-corruption forum in France on Thursday.
Osinbajo said there was no way one could ignore the link between corruption and insurgency.

“Besides, we have seen in Nigeria, in recent years, how corruption directly fueled the terrorist insurgency in the North-East. And how in turn that has led to one of gravest humanitarian disasters in the world.
“Also the adverse implications for education, healthcare, social services, infrastructure and indeed the quality of life no longer requires making a case .
“Corruption and illicit financial flows are different. But they really must be twinned. This is because for practical purposes it is an eminently more sensible approach to treat most of the sources of illicit financial flows as corrupt activity, within a broader use of the term,” he said.

ARSENAL CHAIRMAN ADMITS THAT THE CLUB HAS UNDERWHELMED THIS SEASON

Arsenal chairman, Sir Chips Keswick, has admitted their season has “become rather disappointing.”
The Gunners were eliminated from the Champions League last 16 by Bayern Munich after a 10-2 aggregate loss. It was the seventh successive season Arsene Wenger failed to qualify for the quarter-final.
In the Premier League, they currently occupy sixth place and are in a battle to qualify for the Champions League next season.
The only chance of silverware, is in the FA Cup where they face Manchester City in the semi-final next month.
Asked how the season has gone, Keswick said: “It started well, but it’s become rather disappointing.”
Asked if Wenger was the right man for the job, he replied: “I am not answering that.”

PASTOR DAVID IBIYEOMIE TO TESTIFY AT KEMI OLUNLOYO'S TRIAL

She was re-arraigned before Justice H.O Oshomah where she pleaded not guilty to the fresh charges.
Meanwhile, Justice Oshomah told the police to ensure diligent prosecution of the matter, stressing that he does not intend to have the accused person remanded for long.
The Judge also said the victim who was allegedly defamed in the said news report, Pastor David Ibiyeomie should appear before it as a witness to explain how he was affected by the publication.
The court fixed subsisting dates of 10, 11 and 12th of April for accelerated hearing.

MTN PAYS ADDITIONAL N30 BN FINE TO FEDERAL GOVERNMENT

MTN has made an additional payment of N30 billion ($98 million) to the Nigerian government.
The money is part of a N330 billion fine imposed on the telecoms group for not disconnecting unregistered SIM cards.
Africa’s largest telecoms company has already paid N80billion of the total fine, said a source who confirmed the latest payment to Reuters on Thursday.
The heavy fine is due for payment in six installments over three years.
MTN Nigeria was originally fined $5.2 billion last October for failing to deactivate more than five million unregistered SIM cards.
The fine was reduced in a settlement that paved the way for MTN to list its subsidiary on the Nigerian Stock Exchange.
Nigeria has been cracking down on unregistered SIM cards, concerned that they are used for criminal activity in a country fighting an insurgency by Islamist militant group, Boko Haram.
MTN, which operates in 20 countries, had set aside $600 million last year to pay the fine

PROF OSINBAJO ACCUSES FOREIGN COUNTRIES OF FRUSTRATING LOOTS RECOVERY EFFORTS

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has said tracing, freezing and retrieving stolen assets was frustrating and difficult for most African countries.
He said it had been difficult “to get back stolen assets from the international financial system such as banks that ought not to have received those funds in the first place if even the most routine questions were asked.”
Osinbajo spoke in Paris, France, at the anti-corruption and integrity forum of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
Osinbajo disclosed that Nigeria just signed a bilateral mutual legal assistance treaty on collaboration of financial crimes with numerous countries within and outside the West Africa.
His words: “Secretary-General, We must work collaboratively to ensure transparency in financial transfers, and outlaw secrecy jurisdictions.

“There must be more rigorous enforcement of rules promoting transparency in the international banking and financial systems, especially more stringent KYC rules on customer identity, source of wealth, and even country of origin.
“Countries hosting global financial centers, and other usually targeted destinations of illicit flows must be held more accountable to enforce mechanisms which ensure transparency of ownership, control, beneficial ownerships, trusts and other legal contrivances that may be used to camouflage financial or other assets.
“Open contracting and information systems, are also crucial. Responsible government authorities ought to have information about which companies won what contracts, and what they have paid as taxes to governments in host and home countries.
“This is especially important for the extractive industry. Nigeria is committed to these standards having joined the Open Government Partnership in 2016.

“Tracing, freezing and Return of stolen assets has proved in many cases to be exceptionally difficult for most African countries.
“We in Nigeria have seen just how difficult it is to get back stolen assets from the international financial system, such as banks that ought not have received those funds in the first place if even the most routine questions were asked.
“A robust global framework on repatriation of stolen assets which ensures quick restitution to victim countries is long overdue.
“Your Excellencies, there is consensus that corruption and illicit financial flows out of Africa, inexorably delay the attainment of development goals, worsen practically all human development indices and trap the majority of her people especially the most vulnerable in a cycle of misery.
“Only a united global action has the power to reverse this trend. We respectfully urge that this power be exercised more vigorously and without further delay”.

KEMI OLUNLOYO'S RELEASE MARKS THE END OF PENTECOSTAL CHRISTIANITY IN NIGERIA - OAP FREEZE

Popular Cool FM’s On Air Personality, OAP, Daddy Freeze has reacted to the reported release of US trained journalist, Kemi Olunloyo, from Port Harcourt prison.
Kemi was arrested and detained in Port Harcourt prison for allegedly defaming the founder and General Overseer of Salvation Ministry Worldwide, Pastor David Ibiyeomie.
She was,however, granted bail yesterday.
Freeze, who is one of those who has been speaking up for Miss Olunloyo after she was arrested, said her release will mark the death of Pentecostal Christianity in Nigeria.

ROAD CONSTRUCTION CONTROVERSY- GOV ORTOM FIRES BACK AT WIKE

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has described his Rivers State Counter part's claim that he is constructing roads in Benue state as a tissue of lies.
Ortom made the remark while reacting to claim by his Rivers State counterpart that he is constructing some roads in Benue State.
In a statement by his Special Adviser, Media, and ICT, Tahav Agerzua, the governor said there was no proof that Wike had such plan.

The statement reads, “We read reports in a few national dailies on March 30, attributed to Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, that there were plans to disrupt his road projects in Benue State. Nothing could be further from the truth.
“Benue State does not lack road projects under the Ortom administration, which has mobilised contractors back to site on 11 roads abandoned by Governor Wike’s Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, regime in the state.

“In spite of the recession, Governor Ortom is also constructing two major highways and 17 rural roads across the state, while contracts have been awarded for six other highways.
“Governor Wike’s claim was ridiculous because Benue State is not part of his state and even if he had constructed all his roads, he needed to have contacted stakeholders in Benue State, especially those from the benefitting communities.
“There is no evidence that he did that.”

MENINGITIS OUTBREAK- NIGERIA CONFIRMS 282 DEATHS

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, has confirmed the outbreak of Cerebro Spinal Meningitis, CSM, in five states with at least 282 deaths related to the disease.
Chikwe Ihekweazu, the Chief Executive Officer of the centre, made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday in Abuja.
Mr. Ihekweazu said that 1,966 suspected cases have been recorded while 109 have been confirmed and being treated since the outbreak of the disease in February in the country.
He said that the centre had deployed a response team to the affected states to vaccinate the residents and control further spread of CSM.
According to him, Zamfara has the highest number of confirmed cases of 44, followed by Katsina with 32, Sokoto 19, Kebbi 10 and Niger 4 confirmed cases.
He also said that there is an inter-agency response supporting the states to contain the outbreak through the primary mode of vaccination.
However, Mr. Ihekweazu explained that a new strand of meningitis called “stereotype C” has emerged in place of the previous known type “stereotype A”, which has disappeared.
He regretted that there was not yet commercially available vaccine for this new stereotype “C” meningitis.
“There is a vaccine available but it is not commercially available for the stereotype involved in this specific outbreak and we have to make application to the World Health Organisation for the vaccines.
“Thankfully the vaccines have arrived and we have started vaccination campaign in Zamfara. We are in the process of starting in Sokoto and Kebbi states.

“We continue to advocate for scientists and for the global community to really try and push to develop a vaccine for meningitis `C’, on the other hand all we can do is prevention,” he said.
Ihekweazu said that prevention and early detection was key to combating the disease, if detected early, it could be treated with antibiotics.
He said that the centre was working with the states by supporting and ensuring they have the supplies to combat the disease.
“Meningitis is a tough disease especially during this period and it is associated with over-crowding, understanding the living conditions in the country, people must keep their building ventilated,” he said.
He urged Nigerians to avoid sleeping in overcrowded condition and if a lot of people must sleep together in the same room, the windows and doors must be open to allow enough ventilation.
The chief executive officer assured that the centre would work with state governments in the North West and North Central, where most cases were recorded, to ensure better preparation and avert similar outbreak next year.
The Abuja authorities had earlier confirmed five deaths in the Nigerian capital.

The Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Primary Health Care Development Board on Thursday confirmed the death of yet another person due to cerebrospinal meningitis in the territory.
The News Agency of Nigeria reported on Wednesday that the board recorded four deaths on Tuesday in Durumi area of Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC.
The Executive Secretary of the board, Rilwanu Mohammed, said in an interview in Abuja that another death from the disease occurred in Dakwa, a border village of Bwari Area Council and Niger State on Wednesday.
“The four suspected cases we have were all in Durumi I and II in AMAC while one confirmed case of a child that just happened yesterday (Wednesday) in Dakwa of Bwari area council.
“The four that died in Durumi showed all signs of meningitis but there was an autopsy carried out in the one at Dakwa and was confirmed to be meningitis at the University of Abuja Teaching hospital, Gwagwalada.

SUPER EAGLES MIDFIELDER, WILFRED NDIDI LIFTS LID ON HOW HE DUMPED SCHOOL TO PLAY FOOTBALL

Super Eagles and Leicester City midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi, has said his passion for football caused him to disobey his father who did not want him to take up professional football as career.
He also said he skipped schooling to live his dream of making it big playing the round leather game.
Ndidi made this revelation in an exclusive chat with Leicester Mercury.
He said: “My family was not really into football. My dad wanted me to go to school, not play football.
“My dad watched it on the television but he didn’t want me to play football. He is a soldier, but he didn’t want me to follow in his footsteps, he just wanted me to go to school.
“I did miss out on some school because of football. When I moved to Nath Boys academy, then I started to miss out on some of my schooling.

“My family hasn’t been over to see me play yet. They only see it on TV.”
The ace midfielder further reminisced how his joining Nath Boys Academy took him to Genk in Belgium.
Ndidi said: “I remember kicking a ball around as a child, but I was not in any training or anything. I just had a very small ball and I just kicked it around by my home.
“I was 14 when I joined Nath Boys Academy. We played in a competition and a scout from Genk was there. I was 16 or 17 when they came in for me.
“I was offered a trial at Genk and the president of Nath Boys came with me to Belgium for the trials.
“It was very different to what I was used to but before that I had been travelling with Nath Boys and we played in a tournament in Portugal. We had played against Hull City and Celtic, so it wasn’t completely new.”

The Central Bank of Nigeria will begin sale of foreign exchange to Bureau De Change operators twice weekly from Monday.
This was confirmed by the Acting Director, Corporate Communications Department, CBN, Mr. Isaac Okoroafor, in a statement.
Okoroafar explained that the move, was part of the apex bank’s determination to sustain the liquidity in the forex market.

He said that the BDC operators would henceforth enjoy twice weekly purchases at the sum of $10,000 each.
“In continuation of its determination to sustain liquidity in the foreign exchange market, the Central Bank of Nigeria wishes to inform market participants and the general public that it will commence twice weekly forex sales to Bureaux de Change from Monday, April 3, 2017,” Okoroafor said.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has commended the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for recent foreign exchange policy actions.

The CBN has recorded huge success at the Forex market, since it started injecting over $1.5 billion at the interbank market.
The Naira has continued to remain firm against the dollar, in defiance of predictions by some experts, that it would sink to N1,000 to a dollar by the second quota of the year.

MEET JONNY THE UNITED STATES AIRFORCE DOG THAT JUST RETIRED AFTER 38 YEARS

A United States Air Force dog, Jony, serving with the 20th Security Forces Squadron, has retired after nine years, (68 dog years) of distinguished service.
Jony’s retirement was announced by the U.S. Department of Defence.
Pentagon said in a statement, that Jony retired due to a compressed disc in his spine, and has been permanently put in the hands of its handler, Air Force Staff, Sergeant Anthony Despins, a military dog handler, who met Jony as his first canine partner in 2012.
Pentagon said, “Together, the two used their individual skill sets to make a formidable team, eventually becoming certified as an explosives detection and patrol unit to keep people around the world safe and their fellow airmen out of harm’s way.”
Pentagon further quoted Despins as saying that “Jony was really excited, always happy to see people and very energetic.
“Even back then, Jony knew what was expected of him and how to do his job.
“Jony’s performance during his initial training determined what certifications he received; military working dogs can receive narcotics and explosives credentials as well as certification as a patrol dog.
“All their physical traits: their sight, their hearing, their nose, their speed, their teeth, dogs bring so much to the table – things we can’t do and the equipment we’re provided can’t do.
“Although the physical traits are necessary for success, it takes more than just advanced senses for a dog to pass initial training.
“They must be able to listen to commands. If they can’t do that they’ll automatically be disqualified. Some dogs just don’t have the drive.”
According to Pentagon, after Despins, Jony served with five other handlers, including Air Force Sgt. Kevin Davis Jr., and the pair was deployed to Afghanistan together in 2013.
Pentagon described Jony’s period with the military as a “distinguished service.
“During one of his deployments, Jony went on more than 60 missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, finding six explosives and enduring five firefights.
“Jony also went on seven explosive detection missions with the Secret Service in support of the president and vice president of the United States.
“Thanks to Jony’s acute sense of smell, Davis and his team were able to come back home to their families.”
Davis said that the unwavering faith between military working dogs and handlers is not left behind on the battlefield.
He said, “They’re wingmen. Not only are they there through the thick and thin, the good times and the bad times, they’re there to protect and they’re there to watch out for you.”
Davis added that the bond is incomparable to any other.
“You can create a facade as you’re going through your day to day. However the dog knows; they know when something’s not right or if you feel down or depressed and are just trying to keep a straight face.”
Air Force Staff Sergeant, Robert Coughlin, another military working dogs handler with the Squadron, said, “Dogs would sacrifice and do anything for their handler.
“It doesn’t matter what it is. They have no fear of what they go into as far as the danger.”
Pentagon said Air Force Staff Sergeant Kathryn McCarthy, also a military working dogs handler, read a poem titled “Guardians of the Night,” dedicated to military working dogs and their service, and traditionally read at their retirement ceremonies, in honour of Jony.
At his pulling out ceremony, Pentagon said the sun was rising as Jony took his “last ride” in a patrol truck around the kennel, allowing him to say goodbye to his family of handlers, fellow military working dogs and the base he had worked hard to protect.

“Friends, family and those who may have only known Jony through his acts of courage gathered to commemorate nine years, or 68 dog years, of distinguished service.
“Jony barks throughout the ceremony, joining the crowd in celebration of his accomplishments.
“Like so many airmen before him, Jony receives a retirement pin to symbolise his transition from an active-duty service member to retiree.

“Unlike most airmen, Jony is also presented with a bone to symbolize his transition from the kennel to the couch, reclaiming his place at the side of an old familiar friend.
“After nine years of service alongside several partners, Jony’s leash is relinquished and permanently put in Despins hands, and together the two go home,” Pentagon said.
According to Despins, Jony is more than a dog.
“I don’t look at Jony as a pet or as an animal. I look at him as more than that. He’s like my best friend, even though he can’t talk back,” Despins said.
