Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich left it late to secure a 1-0 win over struggling Hamburg at the Volksparkstadion on Saturday.
Carlo Ancelotti's side had looked set to endure a frustrating afternoon until Joshua Kimmich struck with just two minutes remaining.
Robert Lewandowski, who had headed narrowly over before the break, was frustrated in the second half when Rene Adler stopped his free kick and then slid out to gather a through ball just ahead of the striker -- but Kimmich secured the points when he smashed in a Franck Ribery cross with time running out.
Yunus Malli put the hosts in front before Hernandez's first goal of the afternoon brought Leverkusen level. Stefan Bell restored Mainz's lead before Hernandez equalised and then, in stoppage time, the Mexico striker grabbed a winner for the visitors.
Hertha opened the scoring in the 19th minute with Vedad Ibisevic converting a penalty after Haris Seferovic fouled Valentin Stocker inside the penalty area.
Frankfurt took some time to get settled, but they hit back with two goals before half-time thanks to Marco Fabian and Alexander Meier. Ibisevic brought Hertha level just shy of the hour mark and Alexander Esswein put them back in front -- only for Michael Hector to head an equaliser in stoppage time.
Borussia Monchengladbach warmed up for their Champions League game against Barcelona on Wednesday with a 2-0 win over Ingolstadt, lifting them to fourth.
Lars Stindl put Gladbach in front three minutes before half-time, stroking a shot into the bottom corner after Marvin Matip's clearance fell to him. Oscar Wendt added the second, latching on to Mahmoud Dahoud's pass before beating Orjan Nyland with a low shot.
Werder Bremen came from behind to pick up their first Bundesliga victory of the season at home to Wolfsburg, winning 2-1 thanks to two late goals.
An own-goal from Robert Bauer gave Wolfsburg the lead against the run of play in the 69th minute, but Lennart Thy brought the hosts level four minutes from time before Theodor Gebre Selassie gave them the lead with almost the last kick of the game to lift them out of the relegation zone.
Dirk Schuster picked up his second victory as Augsburg coach with an Alfred Finnbogason header enough for a 1-0 win over his former club Darmstadt.
Leon Guwara picked up a second yellow card in first-half stoppage time, leaving Darmstadt with 10 men, and Augsburg took advantage as the Iceland international forward heading in Koo Ja-Cheol's cross in the first minute of the second half.
