The Stoke City winger, Marko Arnautovic, has signed a new four-year deal with the club until 2021. The 27-year-old former Inter Milan forward had 12 months remaining on his previous contract.
The Austria international, Stoke’s top-scorer last season, had been linked with a move to Everton. Mark Hughes, the Stoke manager, completed the signings of Ramadan Sobhi and Joe Allen from Al Ahly and Liverpool respectively on Monday. Hughes’ new recruits and Arnautovic could feature against Orlando City on Thursday evening.
Hughes confirmed his interest in the West Bromwich Albion striker Saido Berahino last week, after submitting a £17m bid for the striker. Crystal Palace made a higher offer, closer to £20m, although both bids are understood to have been rejected by West Brom, with the club’s chairman, Jeremy Peace, looking to hold out for an improved fee.
Despite entering the final year of his contract Peace’s baseline valuation of Berahino is £20m, but West Brom eager to secure a replacement before agreeing to sell and with more than one club definitely interested, appear willing to play hard ball in an attempt to receive a larger fee. West Ham’s Diafra Sakho has been targeted by West Brom but the Hammers also want to strengthen their attacking options before selling.
Berahino has one year remaining on his contract at The Hawthorns and last month turned down the offer of a new contract. He was close to joining Tottenham Hotspur 12 months ago but that move broke down following protracted negotiations between Peace and his Spurs counterpart Daniel Levy.
