Radamel
Falcao scored on his competitive return for Monaco but his side were
out-gunned by former West Ham striker Emmanuel Emenike as Fenerbahce won
the first leg of their Champions League qualifier 2-1.
The
former Chelsea and Manchester United flop started for the principality
side and equalised from close range after Emenike had given the Turkish
outfit the lead in the third round qualifying tie.
The
Colombian is looking to rebuild his career with Monaco, where he still
has two years remaining on his contract, after a couple of wasted
seasons sitting on the bench in the Premier League.
Radamel Falcao scored on his competitive return for Monaco but couldn't prevent a 2-1 defeat
The ex-Chelsea and Manchester United striker equalised after Emmanuel Emenike's opener
Emenike made sure Falcao's competitive return ended in defeat with a second-half strike
It was
another striker spurned by a Premier League club who stole the show.
Emenike got the first of his brace to put Fenerbahce ahead six minutes
before the break from Simon Kjaer's terrific cross.
However
Falcao showed he still has the poacher's instinct when he poked home an
equaliser three minutes later after a mix-up in the Fenerbahce box.
Monaco
came close to a second in the 49th minute when Nabil Dirar struck one
from long range, but the midfielder's effort came back off the post.
However Falcao's goal will give Monaco hopes in their Champions League qualifier second leg
Emenike ensured the Turkish team hold the upper hand ahead of the return match with a phenomenal second on 63 minutes.
The
Nigerian collected a Gregory van der Wiel pass before finishing
wonderfully past Morgan de Sanctis to put the Turks ahead for a second
time.
Jemerson
thought he had equalised for Monaco in the five minutes later, but the
defender's effort was ruled out for offside as Fenerbahce secured a
narrow advantage ahead of the return match at Stade Louis II on August
3, where Falcao's away goal could prove decisive.
