When the Blues paid Leicester £29million for N’Golo Kante, it looked like Matic’s days were numbered.
But new Stamford Bridge boss Conte said: “He’s a very important player, he’s very important in my idea of football.
“Nemanja knows this and I’m delighted by his attitude.
“I see in him commitment. I know with work he can become a fantastic midfielder, one of the best in the world.
“He is not for sale.”

Conte says he has been working hard on building a team spirit since starting work with Chelsea two weeks ago.
He said: “It’s always important in the team. You can have talent but if there isn’t a good team and good spirit it is very difficult to win the league.
“Leicester last season showed us this is very important.”
Kante — who won the title with the Foxes — joins up with the squad in Detroit at the weekend ahead of their tour clash with Real Madrid and Conte cannot wait.
The Blues boss, whose side are currently in Los Angeles, said: “I’m pleased the club took this player and he is fantastic.
“I can’t wait to see him and work with him. And transfer my idea of football to him.”

He said: “Liverpool are one of the best teams in the league and I’m sure they can fight to win the title.
“I’m very curious to see my team against Liverpool.
“Klopp worked already for six months and it’s very important to work and have the time to transfer your methods and ideas of football.
“It’s very difficult to go in during the season.”
