SHENZHEN, China -- Samir Nasri didn't appear in Manchester City's
International Champions Cup win over Borussia Dortmund after returning
for preseason training overweight.
The France midfielder, who was
out for most of last season with a thigh injury, also missed Pep
Guardiola's first game in charge against Bayern Munich after the new
boss brought in a strict new training regime.
City defender Gael Clichy said that Guardiola had stopped players training with the first-team if they were not at their correct weight.
And Guardiola said after City's 6-5 penalty shootout victory over Dortmund in China, that Nasri was one of them but praised him for his work in preseason.
"He arrived a little bit overweight. He's much, much, much better now," Guardiola told a news conference.
"He
fought a lot in these weeks but he is still a little bit [over]weight.
And last season he was overweight and he was injured all the season we
want to avoid that, we want to adapt.
"The players that are on the
pitch they are fit, their weight is in the right place to arrive at
many minutes. But hopefully in the next two weeks he will be right with
us."
Guardiola
also warned his players that they face an intense fortnight when they
return to Manchester ahead of the Premier League opener against
Sunderland on Aug. 13.
His side have played just two friendlies
and have another against Arsenal in Sweden, but Guardiola is confident
that they can fit in another game in Manchester.
"In football the
season starts when the last one finishes. You don't have time to rest.
We're going to kill our players," he added. "We will play two more
friendlies before Sunderland and we'll see how the condition of the
players is and we're going to decide.
"We saw in Munich and here as well what I want to see -- we were aggressive without the ball.
"The next game is in Manchester against a Scottish team. After, we play Arsenal."
