Sunderland's £7.7m deal to sign Vicente Iborra has been called off by Sevilla , Sky sources understand.
The clubs agreed a fee in writing last week and the
28-year-old midfielder was due to have a medical after the agreement of
personal terms was also reached.
But it is understood the Spanish
club have had second thoughts and Iborra is expected to remain with the
Europa League champions.
Iborra has been part of Sevilla's three successive Europa League
triumphs since 2014 and came on as a late substitute against Liverpool
in the 2016 final in Basel.
He made 47 in total appearances last term, scoring nine goals, including the winner against Barcelona last October.
Sky sources also understand Sunderland are set to miss out on Tottenham's Ryan Mason, who is close to joining Hull City.
