One of the members of the Akwa United Supporters’ Club that were involved in road accident on Saturday has been reported dead.
The accident occurred along the Ekparakwa-Ikot Abasi Road in Akwa
Ibom State on Saturday, when the driver of the bus they were traveling
in lost control.
Recall that the club’s supporters were on their way to Port Harcourt,
the Rivers State capital for a match between Enyimba and Akwa United
when the accident occurred.
The Media Officer of the team, Uwem Ekoh, told DAILY POST on Monday
that the Public Relations Officer, PRO, of the Supporters’ Club, (name
withheld) was badly injured in the accident and later died in the
hospital.
He added that many of other supporters are receiving treatment in a private hospital.
He said that the Akwa Ibom State governor, Udom Emmanuel, visited the
injured supporters at the private hospital in Uyo, the State capital
and directed that they should be moved to a convenient hospital in the
city.
The governor also promised to clear the medical bills of the over 20 club fans involved in the crash.
