Aston Villa have launched a £20m bid for Hull striker Abel Hernandez, according to Sky sources.
The Midlands club remain keen to bolster their squad ahead of
Wednesday's looming transfer deadline and are set to smash
the Championship transfer record, should this deal go through.
Hernandez,
26, was prolific as Hull were promoted from the Championship last
season, scoring 22 goals, and he has one for the Tigers in the Premier
League so far this season.
The local newspaper, Hull Daily Mail,
have reported that the club are keen to keep him, with a lack of
options themselves, but could look to reinvest such a hefty fee in
further signings.
Sky sources understand the Humberside club are close to signing Will Keane in a £1m deal from Manchester United while they have also enquired about Bristol City striker Jonathan Kodjia.
In midfield, Hull are trying to sign Derby midfielder Jeff Hendrick and Tottenham's Ryan Mason, after a strong start to the season of two victories and a defeat to United from three games.
Villa
have so far signed James Chester from West Brom, Tommy Elphick from
Bournemouth, Pierluigi Gollini on a free transfer and Reading's Aaron
Tshibola.
