Former Nigeria captain Uche Okechukwu was pleased to reunite with his old teammates Mutiu Adepoju, Victor Ikpeba, Austin Eguavoen, Ben Iroha and Samson Siasia when they met in Port Harcourt for the Joseph Yobo testimonial on Friday.
The former Fenerbahçe man will line up alongside the Class of 94 versus a world selected side in a game to make the curtain call of former Nigeria captain Yobo at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium.
“I feel very proud meeting my friends again,” Okechukwu told Goal.
“It’s been so long I saw some of them and Yobo’s testimonial is a perfect reunion for us and that reminds me of the USA 94 World Cup.”
When quizzed about what he is into after hanging up his boots after a stint with Bayelsa United in the 2008-09 season, the ‘Gentle Giant’ said: “I’m doing very good and I’m very fine only that I don’t play football any longer,” backing it up with an infectious smile.
Okechukwu and the quintet were members of the all-conquering Super Eagles squad to the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations in Tunisia before shaking the world by reaching the Second Round of the Fifa World Cup USA ‘94.
He was also a member of the gold winning Olympic team at Atlanta '96.
Austin Okocha is expected to join the clique as they prepare to give Yobo a befitting parting gift.
