The Russian ambassador to the United Nations has died of a heart attack in New York City on Monday morning.

Churkin, 64, was inside the Russian consulate on East 67th street when
he suffered a cardiac event at around 9.30am and was rushed to hospital.
He
was not conscious when he was taken to New York Presbyterian Hospital
and his death was announced to the UN shortly after 11am.
He was due to celebrate his 65th birthday on Tuesday and police sources have already said that no foul play is suspected.
'The outstanding Russian diplomat died while he was in his current working role,' said the Foreign Ministry in a statement.
'We offer our condolences to the relatives of Vitaly Ivanovich Churkin.'
The British ambassador to the UN, Matthew Rycroft, said that the world had lost a 'diplomatic giant'.
