Gonzalo Higuain has reportedly received a firm offer to join Manchester United this summer. The Argentine international has been strongly linked with a move away from Napoli in recent months and club legend Jose Alberti says Higuain has received proposals from the Old Trafford club and Paris Saint-Germain.
Alberti suggested both cash-rich clubs have offered the former Real Madrid man an eye-watering sum of money to make the switch this summer. However, he hopes the 28-year-old centre-forward opts to stay with the Italians.
"As a Napoli fan I hope Higuain remains because the Blues could win the championship with him," Alberti said, according to CalcioMercatoWeb. "PSG and Manchester United have a lot of money and with the offers made by these teams we should make him a statue if it decides to stay in Naples."
Alberti said it is important Napoli resist United's offer as they aim to compete with the top teams in Serie A. "The team of Maurizio Sarri next year will have to at least try to confirm second place although I think all the rest of Serie A will also reinforce," he explained.
United have been linked with a number of centre-forwards in recent weeks, including Sweden's record-breaking star Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who is currently out of contract after leaving Paris Saint-Germain in May. Ibrahimovic recently said he is enjoying the speculation surrounding his next move.
"I want you to still write a lot of stories, so I get excited when I see them, because I want to see who is making up the best story," the United target added. "When I'm tired of it, I'll let you know where I will go."
