The kidnapped wife of Chairmanship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State, Mrs. Kudirat Balogun, and one Gbenga Taiwo, have been rescued by the police.
The Commissioner of Police, in the State, Ilyasu Ahmed, who presented the victims before newsmen at the Police Officers Mess in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, the state capital on Friday, said Balogun was kidnapped last Sunday night at her husband’s home on Sekoni Street, Olomore area of Abeokuta by four gunmen.
The CP noted also that Taiwo, who is a hotelier, contractor and an estate agent, was abducted at Atan-Ijebu on Monday and was rescued on the same day at Ogere in Remo North Local Government Area of the state.
Ahmed said the victims were rescued unhurt on Wednesday night by men of the command.
He said, “After the kidnap, operatives of Federal Special Armed Robbery Squad, Magbon, were deployed to comb every nooks and crannies of the state and were able to rescue the victims unhurt.
“We are still on the trail of the suspects and the long arm of the law will soon catch up with them.”
While expressing optimism that those responsible for the crime will be apprehended, the CP said, “We are very close.” . Balogun, narrating her gory experience said “The kidnappers released me when they discovered that men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad and other security forces were closing in on them. I was blindfolded, I could not recognise those places, they moved me from one place to another. I can’t remember anything much,” she added.
On his part, Taiwo, said “I was kidnapped on Monday, August 22, 2016 around 9pm at Atan Ijebu along Barrack Road by four gunmen. They requested for N5m and I told them I did not have such amount of money.
“They threatened to kill me. I was not afraid. I told them that if they killed me they would be arrested because I am an Ijebu man. I continued to give them serious warning, so they panicked and finally dropped me around Ogere area,” he added, commending the police for their efforts.
