Roger Federer defeated his second British player of the week at Wimbledon as he cruised past Dan Evans on Friday.
The Swiss legend won 6-4 6-2 6-2 in the third round against Evans, the British No 4, having already ended the fairy-tale campaign of the previously unheralded Marcus Willis.
Federer's latest local victim put in a gutsy display to delight the home crowd but never looked likely to have the firepower required to cause an upset.
In each of the first two sets, Federer strung together 4-0 leads having already secured a pair of breaks that made it too difficult for the world No 91 to rally back.
In the opening set, Evans did surprise Federer by breaking his serve but it was a brief reprieve. Federer nearly broke a third time, before serving out the set.
In the second, Evans again found himself four games behind but twice held his serve - only succeeding in delaying the inevitable before Federer reached the finishing line.
Evans served out the first game of the third set but, after Federer made it 1-1, the Swiss legend broke twice consecutively to open a 4-1 lead. Evans' energy, by this point, was disappearing and his esteemed opponent waltzed into the fourth round.
Federer, the third seed, is aiming for an eighth Wimbledon title and an 18th Grand Slam. He will play Grigor Dimitrov or Steve Johnson next.T
