Although Guardiola is uncomfortable with the idea of facing clubs from the same country out of competition, City are being paid several millions to play in the International Champions Cup.

Negotiations with United, who are expected to be in China for 10 days, but who must fly back from the Far East in good time for Wayne Rooney’s testimonial against Everton at Old Trafford on August 3, are close to being finalised.
Intriguingly, United manager Louis van Gaal has played a full part in the pre-season tour plans, even though it is widely expected that he will be replaced by Jose Mourinho this summer.
