Jose Mourinho is convinced he will be Manchester United manager next  season

JOSE MOURINHO believes he will be the manager of Manchester United next season.

The former Chelsea boss is understood to be increasingly convinced he will take over the reigns at Old Trafford over the summer.

United may face an FA Cup semi-final this weekend and also still retain hopes of a top four finish, but officials at the club are ready to part company with Louis van Gaal whatever happens over the next month.

Van Gaal has admitted he may need to win the FA Cup or make the Champions League to have any chance of staying, but his support within the corridors of power has started to wane.

A major factor has been the shift in view of Sir Alex Ferguson, who is now believed to be behind the idea of appointing Mourinho having held reservations in the past.
