FRAUDSTERS WHO CLONED GOVERNOR AMBODE'S PHONE DOCKED

Two alleged fraudsters landed in trouble when they were arrested by operatives of the Department of State Service (DSS) for allegedly cloning the phone number of Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode.
The suspects, Rilwanu Jamiu and Balogun Stanley Oyewole, who reside at 10, Giwa Street, Oka Akoko Street, and 65, Unity Street, Ikotun, respectively, were alleged to have committed the offence on February 10, 2016.
They were accused of cloning the Glo number of Ambode, and used the number to send a text message for the transfer of a sum of N50 million from unsuspecting members of the public.
Their offence is contrary and punishable under section 312 (2) and (3) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State.
Also docked with the defendants is one Aderemi Bello who was charged with impersonation and fraud, who was accused of impersonating a United States of America citizen.
Bello was alleged to have fraudulently collected a sum of N408,000 from one Isaac Ademola Fowowe, for procurement of USA citizenship passport application.
All the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecuting counsel, Peter Okerinmodun prayed the court to remand the defendants who were not represented by any counsel in prison custody due to the sensitive nature of the case.
Okerinmodun told the court that some of the accomplices were still at large and releasing the defendant on bail could jeopardize the trial and the evidence, adding that in order to protect the lives of the defendants remanding them in custody would be the best option to protect them from threat.
The Magistrate, Mrs Adetola Adedayo asked the prosecutor whether there was a written application to that effect but Okerinmodun said there was none. Consequently, she ruled that the offences of defendants were bailable and there was no application before the court seeking for their remand.
She therefore, granted bail to the defendants in sum of N1 million with two sureties in the like sum and they were remanded in Kirikiri Prison pending the perfection of their bail.
