The Nigeria Football Coaches Association (NFCA), has criticized president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick, for suggesting that the football house will not hire a local coach anymore.
Sunday Oliseh resigned last month as Super Eagles coach, citing lack of cooperation and breach of contract by NFF as some of the reasons for his quitting.
Pinnick was answering questions at the 18th Annual Africa Business Conference of the Harvard Business School, Boston, Massachusetts, United States and stated that the NFF had reached “the last bus stop” in appointing local coaches.
“After this Sunday Oliseh debacle, we have definitely turned the corner. We are now going to start shopping for a well grounded and qualified foreign coach to tinker the team. Enough is enough,” Pinnick said at the event.
“What we have learnt is that there is a world of difference between being a good coach and being a good manager.”
NFCA President, Bitrus Bewarang, has now said the NFF is being unfair to local coaches, who have contributed to the development of football in the country.
“The attention of the Nigeria Football Coaches Association has been drawn to a statement credited to the NFF President Amaju Pinnick that enough is enough for Nigerian coaches in the Super Eagles,” he said.
“We want to say as an Association that that statement from the NFF President was the most unfortunate in the present dispensation.
“It is at this critical time that the NFF leadership is thinking of embarking on a jamboree of employing a foreign coach who may not be competent as those that are based here at home.”
