CHINESE RESTAURANT REWARDS PLUS-SIZE CUSTOMERS WITH FREE MEAL

A new restaurant in Tianjin, China, has come up with an interesting way of bringing customers to their establishment.
For those customers weighing over 286 pounds, or 20 stone, they will be entitled to a free meal, thePeople's Daily Online reports. 
Diners are asked to weigh themselves before they enter to check if they are entitled to the deal. 


On Friday, queues of customers were seen queuing up to weigh themselves. 
This isn't an isolated case. 
In 2014, it was revealed that a restaurant in Chongqing was offering a free meal for men who weighed over 308 pounds. 
While they awarded a free meal for women who weighed less than 76 pounds. 
According to the South China Morning Post, 62 million people in China are considered to be obese. 
This makes China has the second largest number of obese people in the world after the US. 
According to the Wall Street Journal, China's obesity rate has skyrocketed over the past three decades. 
The country's armed forces are also facing the obesity problem with many of its soldiers have begun to have trouble fitting into their tanks. 
According to a study by the University of Washington’s Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, 23 percent of Chinese boys under the age of 20 are overweight or obese while the average for girls is 14 percent.
