JOSE HOLEBAS' STUNNER EARNS WATFORD ALL THREE POINTS AGAINST PLUCKY MIDDLESBOROUGH

Jose Holebas' piledriver condemned Middlesbrough to a fourth defeat in five Premier League outings as Watford snatched a 1-0 victory they scarcely deserved.
The Greece international's 54th-minute strike was of stunning quality, but it came in stark contrast to much of what either side produced during a largely dour 90 minutes.
Middlesbrough created the better of what few opportunities there were and saw four penalty appeals rejected by referee Roger East, some of them with greater merit than others.

But ultimately they were made to pay for failing to produce enough in the final third as the Hornets held sway - they have now taken 10 points from their last five games - in front of a crowd of 28,131 at the Riverside Stadium.
By contrast, the home side ran out having collected just one point from the previous 12 on offer and knowing that had to change rapidly if they were not to surrender their positive start to the campaign.
The first half unfolded as something of a slog with Aitor Karanka's men dominating possession, but doing little with it.

Stewart Downing scooped a third-minute half-volley over the bar and Gaston Ramirez dragged a left-footed effort wide after exchanging passes with striker Alvaro Negredo three minutes later with the Hornets on the back foot during the early skirmishes.
The Teessiders also had two penalty appeals waved away inside a minute after Negredo went down under the combined attentions of Younes Kaboul and Nordin Amrabat - the former appeared to have at least one handful of shirt. Downing headed against Amrabat's arm, although from point-blank range, and then whistled a right-foot shot wide from the rebound with Mr East unmoved.
Central defender Ben Gibson came as close as anyone to opening the scoring in the first half with a speculative 35-yard drive on the half-hour, although Negredo might have unwittingly done so two minutes earlier at the wrong end.
Back inside his own penalty area to defend a Watford free-kick, he got to Holebas' cross first and powered a header just over the angle of bar and post in his efforts to clear the danger.
Boro resumed in determined fashion and were appealing for a penalty once again three minutes into the second half when Negredo went to ground under Holebas' challenge, but this time the complaints were muted as the referee waved play on.

Midfielder Adam Forshaw side-footed tamely at keeper Heurelho Gomes after running on to Cristhian Stuani's 52nd pull-back, and Uruguay international Stuani fired just wide from a narrow angle seconds later.
But it was the visitors who took the lead in spectacular style when Holebas latched on to Marten de Roon's clearance and smashed an unstoppable shot high into the top corner, beyond the stunned Victor Valdes.
Ramirez saw further penalty claims waved away after hitting the turf as he was confronted by Miguel Britos eight minutes later. Valdes, who is yet to convince the Boro faithful of his enduring quality, had to field a well-struck Isaac Success shot as time ran down.

The police in Camerooan at the weekend arrested four Nigerian ladies allegedly heading to Russia with a notorious Cameroonian sex workers for prostitution.
The trafficker, Eyambe Sona, was arrested by the police in possession of the four Nigerian girls who are between ages 19 and 24 years.
The girls, who were housed in an apartment in Cameroon, while their travel documents were being processed, reportedly ran out of money and food.

Their quest for food following the alleged prolonged hunger, led them to start begging for alms from some Cameroonian residents, Cameroon TV channel, CRTV is reporting.
According to the report, the Nigerian girls were lodged in a hidden hotel in the region of Muyuka in Cameroon.

The Divisional Officer for Muyuka Sub Division, Tambe Tabot, got a tip-off and went into discrete investigations on the notorious trafficker.

“After intensive interrogation, the accused, who is presently in police custody, was identified as a member of a criminal gang involved in trafficking sex workers to Europe.
“The four girls have been handed over to the Nigerian Consulate in Buea for repatriation to Nigeria,” the divisional officer added.

“What has happened is most painful. I want to appeal to our football players to always be mindful of the company they keep and the places they go at all times, because they are special assets. At the end of the day, each and everyone of us will die, but we don’t want to be losing football players in the manner in which Izu Joseph has died.”

SEGUN ARINZE COMES FOR NEWBIES IN NOLLYWOOD WHO ONLY SPEAK 'PHONETICS"

Veteran Nollywood actor, Segun Arinze, has described new actors in the industry as social media ‘celebrities’ who are not well grounded in the art.
Arinze, in an interview with HipTv lamented the worrisome state of the industry especially the idea of new Nollywood replacing old Nollywood.
He stressed that the new structure does not portray actors as professionals as they tend to be more concerned about popularity on social media than being constantly trained.
The actor said, “Today’s set of Nollywood actors are not grounded. What they know how to do is to speak phonetics.

“Most of these guys are pretentious. They are only interested in who has the highest number of likes or followers on their social media platforms.
“Most of them are not even disciplined and they lack the knowledge; they only want to be popular,” the actor further stated, noting that talent was not enough as an actor but constant training to surpass your colleagues.
“I am sorry to say this but the truth is that today’s crop of Nollywood actors are not grounded. Talent is not the only thing you need; you also have to be grounded,” he added.

ESE ORURU'S PARENTS BEMOAN NEGLECT BY GOVERNMENT

Barely seven months after Ese Oruru was rescued from her abductor, her parents have said they are no longer comfortable with their daughter’s continuous stay in police protective custody, which they described as uncomfortable for a nursing mother and her baby.
The 14-year-old girl and native of Delta State but resident in Bayelsa state, was allegedly abducted on August 12, 2015 and taken from Yenagoa to Kano where she was converted to Islam and married by her abductor, Yunusa Dahiru, aka Yellow.
However, when Ese was rescued and returned to Yenagoa in March, police authorities discovered she was five months pregnant.

Ese has been at the Police Officers’ Mess, Yenagoa, the state capital, even after she delivery and her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Charles Oruru, on Monday, lamented her absence from school.
According to them, denying their daughter her freedom through protective custody while the accused person roamed the streets on bail was ‘ironic’.
Ese’s mother, Rose, said her daughter lacked the proper care expected of a nursing mother.

Rose said, “People from Bayelsa have been assisting us and even the police officers, we want to leave there to our house because the place (Police Officers Mess) is not a good place to stay and bring up a new born baby.
“We are just abandoned in a room that we are not even allowed to go out. We stay with our trash bin which is smelling. We and the new born baby are compelled to breathe the offensive smell.
“So the world should note that we are being marginalised for no reason, as the boy Yunusa is still owing me some money after taking my daughter to Kano to impregnate her for me.”
On his part, her father, Charles said their daughter had been denied freedom under the guise of protection.

While lamenting that Ese and her baby were not properly catered for in their protective custody in the officers’ mess, he lamented that Ese was supposed to be in school adding that her daughter had lost a school year following the saga.
Charles said, “My daughter has been yearning and even crying to go back to school as her classmates are now ahead of her, she has lost a whole year to this saga and she is still in Police protective custody while the accused person is enjoying freedom on bail.

“I am begging the Delta State Government, Nigeria and the world at large to come to our aide.
“Nowadays without education one is going to nowhere, so she is not doing anything in their custody, while the accused move freely and she is suffering there.
“I have called on the Delta govt. to assist because I have five children which Ese is the second to the last child, so my state should come to my family aide”

EX ANAMBRA GOVERNOR, EZEIFE LAUDS AISHA BUHARI ON BBC INTERVIEW

The Wife of the President, Aisha Buhari, has been lauded for crying out against the alleged hijack of the government of her husband, Muhammadu Buhari by “those who didn’t do anything, who don’t even have voters’ cards.”
Reacting, former governor of old Anambra State, Dr Chukwuemeka Ezeife, in an interview with Sunday Sun, described Aisha’s outburst as a divine inspiration, adding that she has done a great favour to Buhari and Nigerians for exposing the cabals who are holding down the country.
He said, “I have read some reactions already. I think in my judgment, the lady, Aisha, has done a great favour for both Buhari and Nigerians. For Buhari, she has let people know that what is happening in government is not all Buhari’s fault.

“Anybody who takes what is happening in government as order from Buhari will not have much respect for him because what is going on doesn’t reflect intellect or even conscience.
“But now, we know that the people who are controlling the affairs of the country are not the people Nigerians gave their mandate to. Buhari cannot be as poor in judgment as what we are seeing happening from the seat of power.”

The former governor went on to state that the President’s wife’s courageous exposure of the cabal had relieved Nigerians of the perceived regret by the electorate who felt shortchanged by the performance of the All Progressives Congress, APC-led government in the last one and a half years.
He continued, “I sympathize with both of them because the issue is made public. But they should forgive each other and see what has happened as a divine inspiration. It has relieved Nigerians of the worst of thinking that they had elected somebody who did not deserve to be elected.”

NIGERIA'S EXTERNAL RESERVES HIT AN ALL-TIME 11 YEAR LOW OF $24.8 BN

The country’s external reserves have hit an 11-year low of $24.21bn, according to the latest data from the Central Bank of Nigeria.
The development means a limited amount of dollars will be available at the official interbank spot market, fuelling concerns over another round of depreciation of the naira.
The country’s external reserves had depleted to a then record-low of $24.8bn about two weeks ago.
The foreign exchange reserves fell by $600m in two weeks before shedding $1bn in four weeks, the CBN statistics showed.
Specifically, the reserves fell from $25.8bn on August 16 to $24.8bn on September 16. It decreased by $600m from the $25.4bn recorded on August 31 to $24.8bn on September 16, the current CBN data revealed.
The spate of decline in the external reserves follows the CBN’s almost daily interventions at the interbank/official foreign exchange market in recent weeks, as chronic dollar shortage continues to weigh on the economy.
In its efforts to defend the naira and prevent it from falling further at the official interbank market, the central bank has been selling dollars there more frequently.
The naira had fallen to an all-time low of 365.25 to the dollar at the interbank market on August 18 before making a gradual recovery.
On Friday, the local currency closed at 305 against the greenback at the official market, while closing at 460 to the dollar at the parallel market on the same day.
The CBN had on June 20 lifted its 16-month-old currency controls and auctioned about $4bn on the spot and futures markets to clear a backlog of dollar demand and help boost interbank market trading.
The global plunge in oil prices caused the reserves to be depleting very fast. The development had forced the CBN to introduce foreign exchange controls, which were abandoned in June.
